In the two-stage process the preform is injection moulded on one machine (Preform Injection Moulding Machine ie. Husky, SIG, Netstal, Arburg, among others), and is then transferred to the second stage machine, the Reheat Stretch Blow Moulding machine. This transference can be from the Preform Supplier or through in-house production.

Typical manufacturers/brands of Reheat Stretch Blow Moulding Machines are Sidel, SIG, ADS, SIPA, SMI, Kosme or Krones among others).

Because the stretch blow moulding part of the two stage process is much faster than the injection moulding of the preforms it is possible to achieve very high outputs from two stage systems, provided that sufficient preforms are available, compared to single stage systems.

Currently output of a Reheat Stretch Blow Moulding machine is 1,000 bottles/cavity up to 1,800 bottles/cavity depending on the age of the machine.

The rate of production of injection moulded preforms is dependent on the number of cavities in the mould tool as well as cycle time. Cycle time depends on the preform wall thickness, preform neck finish and the cooling time required.

The rotary wheel blow molding machine are the machine of choice for very high volumes of containers for markets such as liquid detergent and juice in North American markets. Wheels are typically chosen over shuttles because of processing ease (and cost) due to single parison technology and lower cost per container for high-volume applications. This is especially true for coextrusion and multilayer applications. Machines can be designed to handle a wide range of container sizes, but are typically committed to a narrow range of container variation after built. Because the containers are blow with a needle (instead of blow pin), it is not unusual to blow containers in a neck to neck configuration to increase the production output. Wheels come in various configurations including indexing, continuous motion, vertical (like a ferris wheel) and horizontal (like a merry go round). Some even now have the capability to produce calibrated neck containers, such as a reciprocating screw (Intermittent extrusion). Most, however, rely on downstream trimming equipment to trim and finish the container.

In the most basic terms, the process of Plastic Injection Moulding involves the introduction of a certain material into the moulding machine (most typically via a ‘hopper’). The moulding machine is most commonly made up of a heated barrel (equipped with a reciprocating screw, usually driven by a hydraulic or an electric motor, which usually then feeds molten plastic into a temperature controlled split mould via a comprehensive network of gates and runners).
The polymer is melted by the reciprocating screw, which also then acts as a ram during the injection process. The shearing action of the rotating screw on the plastic assists in providing even more heat that can be utilised in this part of the process before the polymer is then injected into a mould which has been created in accordance to the required dimensions of the finished product desired by the client or customer. The pressure involved in the production process when the polymer is injected into the mould is extremely high, possibly even reaching 1000 atmospheres depending on the material being used in the process.
There are many companies and firms who specialise in producing important components and items made from plastic via the process of injection moulding. There is also a large number of companies which specialise in the production and supply of the moulds used in the injection moulding process.
The importance of the process of Plastic Injection Moulding is demonstrated by the fact that the service provided by the companies practising the process is in great demand by a considerable number of customers, including those in specialist industries such as aerospace and defence which require necessary specialist plastic goods and items produced by this process. The process is most commonly used in the production of the majority of thermoplastics such as polystyrene and nylon.

Injection molding machine maintenance–Maintenance of hydraulic system.
In injection molding, injection pressure is a major factor to determine the product quality good or bad, so the stability of the hydraulic system is very important. The failure of the hydraulic system mainly from the improper working temperature and oil pollution. Proper maintenance of the hydraulic system to prevent premature mechanical wear and undue damage, and can effectively extend the service life.
When the fuel tank oil temperature does not reach 25 ?, we need to start the hydraulic pump motor to pump unload running to approach the oil temperature. When the fuel tank oil temperature higher than 55 ?, pay attention to check the temperature control of the situation, unusual to notify the maintenance persons to make the oil temperature reduced to the acceptable degree.
Normal oil temperature should be maintained at a temperature of 30-55 degrees. If the oil temperature exceeds 55 degrees Celsius, the long-term operation will cause the following problems.
1) The pressure of oil due to oxidation and deterioration.
2) the pressure to reduce oil viscosity caused by the following scenario:
I. pump damage.
II. Leakage and pressure drop caused by clamping force and injection pressure decreased at the same time.
III. Accelerated aging speed oil seal.
Every six months to clean the internal oil cooler once, to prevent erosion damage or internal cooling performance weakened.
Whether the oil in the tank are in the requested liquid level. Contaminated hydraulic oil, will lead to valve failure and accelerated wear of hydraulic components, shortening component life.
Therefore, we must make a proper hydraulic system maintenance prevention.

Shaping liquid plastic resins into solid, usable objects and parts is a modern science that is commonly performed using an injection molding machine. The machines come in various sizes, with the size of the machine determined by the desired dimensions of the finished product. Invented in 1872, the injection molding process revolutionized the plastics industry. It is currently a multi-billion dollar business that produces about 32% by weight of all the world’s plastics. Its popularity is credited to the injection molding process, and the machines that make millions of consumer products and manufacturing parts and components that are affordable, yet strong and long-lasting.

The machinery involved in plastic injection molding is costlier and very sensitive and complex equipment. These machines are called as injection molding machines. The machines used are also heavy and some even weigh upto tons of kilogram. But only when these kind of machines are used the final product turns out to be a quality product. This is so because the plastics are fed into these machines and they are heated until they become fluid. This shows that the machines should withstand high temperature and hence the need for a complex equipment.

Plastic materials used for the injection moulding process are thermoplastics or thermosetting plastics. Both the thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics are polymers. Some widely used thermoplastics are nylon, polyethylene, and polystyrene while bakelite, vulcanized rubber are the widely used thermosetting plastic. Sometimes a polymer with a very high elasticity is also used. Such a polymer is called elastomer.

The plastic takes the shape of the cavity or the mold used and get solidified or settled in it. After being solidified it is ejected out After some time molded material is ejected out from the cavity. The same cavity can be used to make any number of molds. The mold is of any desired shape.

Plastic PET Preform Mold product business is becoming competitive as cheaper cost Asian countries including China continue to increase their share in the global business. To survive the competition, it is essential that the injection molder optimize the injection moulding process and enhance productivity, reduce wasteful operations and save time.

Any mold has an optimum filling time. The optimum filling speed is close to that which requires the least pressure. However, faster filling speeds are often compromised by problems such as gassing. The burning of the melt front due to entrapment of cavity air takes place. Vents should be cut where the gassing occurs. If vents do exist, and they are properly sized and clean, then reducing the locking force can help with venting and enable faster injection time. But the process should not be compromised because of the poor venting – the venting should be properly engineered to do the job required. Optimizing filling time; Probably 95% of all moulds should have a filling time between 1.5 and 3 seconds. If a mould takes longer than 3 seconds to fill, it should be investigated. Small parts with short flow lengths will fill quicker but only very thick parts or those with flow lengths more than 500 mm will need to be filled for more than 3 seconds. Optimizing filling may only make a small time saving, but getting the filling time set at the optimum will enable savings to be made elsewhere. The packing or holding time is a phase in which semi-molten mass in the filled mould is pressurized while it cools to allow additional melt into the mold to compensate for the shrinkage that occurs. With crystalline polymers such as Polypropylene, this can be significant as volume shrinkage is high. The packing phase reduces sink marks, improves replication of the mould finish, consolidates welds and controls gloss level. The gate must be sized correctly to remain open long enough to enable a correct packing. A gate freeze check will determine the exact time available for packing.

The cooling time for the part is determined by the wall thickness and the polymer type and is easily looked up from tables or determined accurately. The packing time is about 80% of the cooling time which itself is often less than that which is set. Cooling rate is an exponential relationship between polymer melt temperature and time. The rate drops continuously. Raising the temperature at which a moulding can be ejected reduces the cooling time by a disproportionately large amount.

Investigation will often find that the cooling time set on the moulding machine was established by experimentation and was the time that either the part did not distort, or it was the minimum that prevented ejectors digging in or some other reason that was more related to issues with the mold than related to process physics.

With injection blow molding, the hot plastic material is first injected into a cavity where it encircles the blow stem, which is used to create the neck and establish the gram weight. The injected material is then carried to the next station on the machine, where it is blown up into the finished container as in the extrusion blow molding process above.

Injection blow molding is generally suitable for smaller containers and absolutely no handleware. Extrusion blow molding allows for a wide variety of container shapes, sizes and neck openings, as well as the production of handleware. Extrusion blown containers can also have their gram weights adjusted through an extremely wide range, whereas injection blown containers usually have a set gram weight which cannot be changed unless a whole new set of blow stems are built. Extrusion blow molds are generally much less expensive than injection blow molds and can be produced in a much shorter period of time.

Many people have heard about stretch blow molding in conjunction with P.E.T. bottles commonly used for water, juice and a variety of other products. There are two processes for stretch blow molded P.E.T. containers. In one process, the machinery involved injection molds a preform, which is then transferred within the machine to another station where it is blown and then ejected from the machine. This type of machinery is generally called injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) and usually requires large runs to justify the very large expense for the injection molds to create the preform and then the blow molds to finish the blowing of the container. This process is used for extremely high volume (multi-million) runs of items such as wide mouth peanut butter jars, narrow mouth water bottles, liquor bottles etc.
