The British Plastics Federation (BPF), the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3), the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) and the Gauge & Toolmakers Association (GTMA) are heralding PDM 09 as the UK plastics industry’s most important event of the year, a showcase for innovation and enterprise and a key forum of learning.
“PDM is the UK’s leading plastics design show, at the forefront of connecting the design community with the traditional plastics manufacturing industry,†said Dr Matthew Thornton, Materials Advisor at The IOM3. “This connection between design and manufacturing helps to stimulate industry innovation, which in turn creates wealth for the UK. The Polymer Society is keen to support and enhance these connections and sees PDM as a core activity in achieving these goals.â€
For IOM3, PDM 09 offers the opportunity to communicate the work of its polymers division while exhibiting Fantastic Plastics, its showcase for a huge range of shapes and colours that successfully combine functionality with desirability in the realm of packaging design.
“PDM offers an excellent opportunity to promote ourselves and our members to the plastics industry,†comments Steven Hunt, business development manager at the BPI.
“It is truly unique in how it brings together buyers and suppliers from across the industry. It also creates an opening for greater engagement between the plastics industry and designers, which is crucial for the future of our industry.â€
The BPF is launching six buyers’ guides at PDM 09 and will offer visitors the chance to sample its new Plastipedia.co.uk online plastics encyclopaedia featuring videos and interactive animations and Plastbook.com, its professional networking site.
The IED will use its presence at PDM 09 to develop greater ties with the plastics design community, raise awareness of its membership services and encourage existing members to adopt the widest possible range of materials.
The GTMA, another strong supporter of the show, will this year use PDM to champion the quality and excellence of the UK’s tooling industry and communicate to the whole plastics industry the case for utilising British skills and innovative expertise.
